The Moon Had a Shadow – soundtracked by Jason Mraz’s ‘Shine’

As a Jason Mraz fan, I loved the song ‘Shine’ and have had a project on the bench for sometime to license the track and pair it together with my solar eclipse footage. I’m sure the song has a deeper metaphorical meaning, shining unconditional love and light on others. My new short film brings to life the more literal lyrics, “the moon had a shadow”, which we see and experience during an eclipse.

A tale of two eclipses, featuring footage from Idaho, Wyoming and the Tetons and Exmouth, Western Australia. With a licensed soundtrack, ‘Shine’ by Jason Mraz, that seemingly was written just for this film.

Preparing for these eclipses and processing the footage has been my life’s work (outside business hours) for several years. The eclipse footage and details in the solar corona are among the highest resolution ever captured, by anyone, anywhere. If there was a World Cup for eclipse photography, I like to think this film would be in the final!

This six minute short film suited an in person audience, a big screen and loud sound. It has been shown by a number of small but selective film festivals:
